  Chapter One

  Day One (Boarding)

With his palm, Kyle Johnston wiped the beads of sweat from his neck as he slowly made his way to the front of the line to get into the terminal. He didn’t know it would take them so long to get on the damn cruise ship, and that the process would be so chaotic. First, their flight had been delayed for more than two hours, and then it took forever to catch a fucking taxicab, and now here he was, standing in the ridiculously longest line he’d ever seen. His boarding documents slipped from his passport case as he fanned himself. His parents had gifted him this seven-day Eastern Caribbean trip for his thirty-third birthday. What they’d neglected to tell him was that they’d also given a trip to Kirk and his wife for their honeymoon. On the same damn ship.

He showed the check-in agent his documents. They went through the security line and x-ray, only to have to stand in another line.

Kyle sighed, watching his brother Kirk and new wife Nicole. They were getting on his last nerve. His brother kissed Nicole on her neck, and wrapped his arms around her waist, making her giggle. She turned around and kissed him, and then the simple kiss turned into something that should only be seen in the bedroom. He was happy for his brother. He now had what Kyle once had, a good woman. Kyle had never seen his brother this happy. The two of them were already talking about starting a family. Nicole made Kirk see the good in things, when he himself couldn’t. She had been right by his side when they’d found out their father had a stroke. Kyle and his siblings hadn’t found out about the stroke until a few days after it happened. Their father had told their step-mom, Carmen, to keep it quiet until after the surgery. As soon as they’d found out, they were on the next flight out. He thanked God that his uncle Javier, and cousins Matt and Andrew, never left his father’s side. Dee was right by Kyle’s side, too. She had always been Kyle’s one constant, and now he had nothing.

His father was doing great after speech therapy. Kyle wished they lived closer to his dad, but it had been years since his parents’ divorce and his mom never moved. Kyle and Kirk stayed in the area and his sister Victoria went to college out of town, then moved closer to their father after graduation.

He had to admit he was a little jealous of what his brother had found in Nicole, because he’d had that with Dee: a place to call home, someone that would have his back, no matter what. He prayed his brother wouldn’t make the same mistakes he had.

“There’re kids around,” Kyle muttered, watching the way a few couples with children stared at the kissing couple. He sighed, annoyed. He needed to get away from Kirk and his sister-in-law. He was tired of all the fondling and I love yous. Why would his parents think it was a good idea to send someone who was going through a divorce along on a trip with freaking newlyweds? Irritation skittered through him.

“I love you.” Nicole wiped Kirk’s lips with her fingers before glancing at Kyle. “I hope you meet someone on this cruise.”

Kyle remembered a time when he couldn’t keep his hands off his wife. His heart was in shambles right now. Dee just walked out on him, and moved to a different state over something he said. Kyle would’ve done anything for her, but he couldn’t lie. He’d always been honest with her, even when it would hurt. However, now he regretted telling her the truth. She’d asked him a question and he’d answered, but his answer wasn’t what she’d wanted to hear. Dee wanted something he just couldn’t give her at the moment.

“Next,” an older representative called out, bringing him out of his thoughts. The newlyweds were at it again and he bypassed them.

“See you later.” He waved at them, walked up to the counter, and gave his documents to the representative. The lady took a picture of him and handed him his cruise card. Kyle searched the area for his brother and found him a couple of desks down. He was finally able to sneak away from Kirk and Nicole. Quickly, he followed the signs and the staff members to board the ship. A photographer stopped him to pose for a picture.

“No, thank you.” Kyle continued up the stairs to the ramp. He cracked his neck as he strolled down the narrow hall toward the rooms. He was relieved to finally be able to find his cabin. He kept swiping the black card through the slot on the cabin door and the bright red light illuminated. Now here he was having issues with his key. “Shit! Can’t something go right for me today?”

“Do you need some help?” A female’s deep, sultry voice echoed through him.

His lips curled up in to a huge smile, and he slowly turned around. Dark brown eyes looked back at his. She was beautiful, standing there watching him with a smirk on her face. Damn, her eyes were gorgeous. They were your normal brown eyes but there was something in the way they sparkled back at him, surrounded by extra-long lashes. Her luscious, chocolate mocha skin was absolutely lickable. Curly hair tumbled down to fall along slender shoulders. She had full lips and a Coke-bottle figure, wrapped in a black sling dress. Kyle gawked at her curvy body, down to her pink-painted toes. She was thick, just the way he loved his women; he smiled to himself, wondering how she’d look underneath her clothing. He needed to get a hold of himself, before he scared her away.

She stared back at him nervously, waiting for an answer.

He waved his card. “I can’t seem to get my key to work.” He bent and grabbed his backpack off the ground. “I’ll just head back down to customer service.” He took one step.

“No need to make that trip.” She stepped forward and swiped her card in his door and the green light illuminated. “This is my room. I’m guessing the cabin next to mine is yours.”

“You don’t say?” Kyle inspected his card and searched for his cabin number. She was correct. His room was on the right. “Sorry, long and exhausting day.” He stared at her. What could she be thinking?

“Tell me about it,” she said, pushing her door open.

“Nice to know you’re my neighbor for the next seven days.” He strode over to his cabin door. “Will I be seeing a mister?”

She chuckled softly, “No ‘mister’. Just me.”

“Good to know.” He swiped his card in the slot and the light turned green. “What’s your name?”

  “Destinee.”

  “Destinee who?”

  “Just Destinee.”

“Just Destinee, are you traveling alone?” He was intrigued; Kyle wasn’t the type to play games, but this—she— might help him get his mind off his problems. In that moment, he decided to leave all his troubles at the terminal. This vacation was supposed to help him get over everything that had happened in the past months, and now, looking at the chocolate beauty before him was going to make it so much easier.

She raised her eyebrows. “No, I’m here with friend
s.”

“Maybe we can have a drink or two later.” He leaned against the wall next to her room. “What do you say?”

  “Perhaps.” Destinee watched him suspiciously.

Kyle raised his hand in the air. “Nothing fishy, I just want to get to know you.”

“Too bad. Fishy sounds interesting, I don’t mind making new friends.” She gazed at him.

Friends, he thought. Kyle was thinking more in terms of vacation boos.

She continued staring at him. “You have stunning eyes.”

“Thank you. So do you.” Damn, he hadn’t flirted in so long.

She chuckled. “Really? My eyes are plain brown.”

“They are more than plain.” Kyle gazed into her irises, she thought they were simple, but to him her eyes were radiant and unique. There was something about the way she looked at him. “They are beautiful.” It seemed like she wanted to say something, but held back.

“Well, it was nice meeting you.” Destinee pushed the barrier wider and placed her bags over the threshold. “But I’m exhausted.”

He smiled. “I hope to see you around Destinee…”

“Oh, you will, Kyle.” She winked.

“How do you know my name?” He raised his eyebrow.

Destinee pointed at the luggage tag on his bag. “See you later,” she said, easing the door shut.

This trip might be interesting after all, Kyle thought, because he was going to have Ms. Destinee all to himself.

  ***

Destinee leaned her back against the door, closing her eyes. What a day. First, she almost didn’t make her flight because she forgot her passport and had to return home to get it, and then the line at the airport security checkpoint was long, and to make matters worse, there were babies crying left and right on the airplane. At least she made it, and meeting Kyle was the first thing that had gone right all day.

He was gorgeous; Kyle was over six feet, two inches tall. His brown, shaggy hairstyle and olive complexion reminded her of William Levy, whom she’d just read about in People Spanish magazine while she was on the plane. She hadn’t felt an attraction to a man like that since she’d met her ex, a long time ago. His emerald eyes were so dreamy, it seemed like he was looking into her soul. She’d never seen forest green eyes with a dash of brown, like his. She could see sadness in them, as well. She wondered what he had been feeling when he saw her…and those dimples, when he smiled, made her heart race.

Destinee had to get away from him. She was too vulnerable at the moment. She needed to take her time. Her marriage was still worth fighting for—or was it? Destinee had taken this vacation to think about what she really wanted in life. However, she needed to have fun, too. It wouldn’t be a bad thing if she ended up in her neighbor’s bed, would it?

Destinee fluttered her eyes open and looked around her suite. It was breathtaking. Her mother-in-law had made sure she had the best of the best. Her lips curled up into a smile as she inspected the area: there was a queen-sized bed with fluffy pillows in the middle, surrounded by mirrors, a loveseat and a counter with a bottle of wine, and five wine glasses. The room was bigger than she’d expected. From where she stood, she could see the ocean and a view of the Port of Miami. Her room had a balcony with two chairs. She ambled forward, taking a tour of the spacious room. Destinee peeked into the bathroom, and to her surprise, it had a bathtub. She strode over to the private balcony and opened the sliding glass doors. Stepping outside, she sat in the blue chair to watch the people still wandering on the pier and waving goodbye to the ship.

“Bye.” She waved her hand, to no one in particular. This was her way of saying goodbye to her sadness and hello to happiness.

  Chapter Two

  Day Two at Sea

Kyle sat at the poolside bar, sipping on his rum and cola. He saw Destinee at the safety brief for a second, but when he turned back around, she was gone. Kyle yawned. He was exhausted after the long afternoon he’d had. He fell asleep after the muster and drill brief, but some kid kept crying from one of the cabins, and waking him up. He got up from his bed, put on some clothing, and went to the gym for a few hours. Kyle worked out some of his frustration and stress on the boxing bag, weights, and treadmill. After his workout, he was tempted to knock on Destinee’s door as he passed. He shook his head and kept on going, deciding to pay the bar a visit, instead. He would get the mocha beauty out of his mind. His desire to talk with her was distracting.

“You’re supposed to be having fun.” Kirk tapped his shoulder before sitting on the stool next to him. “Not drowning your sorrows.”

“Your wife finally let you off your leash.” Kyle smirked and took a large gulp of his drink. “I’m on this trip because I didn’t want to waste our parents’ money.”

“Dude, why don’t you just call her, and stop being so stubborn?” His brother watched him closely, raising an eyebrow. “Dee just needed some time away from it all. You might be surprised with what she has to tell you.”

Kyle clenched his jaw, then slammed his glass on the counter, making the bartender look over his way. Kirk’s eyes widened. “Really.” He glared at the younger man. “She needed nine fucking months to think.” Why did his brother bring this shit up now? He was finally getting his mind off his divorce. “I’m here to forget, not to reminisce about the past.” Kyle looked over his brother’s shoulder and his lips curled up when he saw Destinee strolling over to the main pool. She had on a large, straw hat, and a wrap-around dress. She was one fine woman.

“I didn’t mean to upset you,” Kirk commented softy. “I just want you to be happy, have fun, like you used to.”

“Oh, I’m going have a great time.” He returned his attention to his brother. “I’ve already found someone to help me.”

“Kyle…” his brother sighed. “Why would you get involved with someone on this ship?”

“Who said anything about getting involved?” Kyle picked up his glass and tossed back the last of the clear liquid. “It’s called adult fun.”

Kirk shook his head. “Be careful.”

“I know what I’m doing, kid.” Kyle patted his brother on his back. “You and your wife need to enjoy your honeymoon; don’t worry about me.”

“Kirk!” someone yelled. They both looked up at the upper deck and Nicole was waving one hand with a fruity drink in the other.

“She found you.” Kyle chuckled, walking away, and then turned. “See you in six days.” He had one person on his mind and she was about to take off her dress. His dick throbbed; he imagined what she must look like under that flimsy material. As he was walking by, he heard three younger guys talking while staring in Destinee’s direction.

“I bet she has rolls,” the blond guy said, making Kyle stop in his tracks.

“Naw, she might have a muffin top,” the black dude laughed.

“Twenty dollars says she has a belly like my mom,” the third idiot chimed in. They all laughed and took out twenty dollars each.

Kyle shook his head. Was he a knucklehead when he was that young?

“I want in on the bet.” Kyle pulled out a twenty from his front pocket and waving it, strolled up to the round table on the side of the pool. “I bet she has a banging body. Don’t let the thickness fool you.” He raised his eyebrow. “Can I join?”

The guy farthest from him laughed. “Sure, if you don’t mind losing. There’s no way that she—”

He didn’t get to finish his sentence. Destinee slipped off her dress, letting it fall to the ground, revealing her toned body in a red bikini. Her large breasts were barely covered by the thin material followed by a small waist, wide hips, down to her ass, and those thunder thighs. Seeing her like this knocked the breath right out of Kyle; he couldn’t take his eyes off her. The red, lacy cloth clung to the roundness of her ass.

All of them just gawked at her. “Damn…” the blond guy gasped.

“Don’t judge a book by its cover.” Destinee’s mocha skin glowed under the sunlight. Kyle had to stop ogling her. H
is manhood jerked in response. Two of the young men lifted their bills in the air, and the other guy handed them to Kyle.

“Thanks.” He took the money and continued on his way. He strolled up to Destinee as she bent down to grab her dress off the ground. “You might want to cover up,” he said from behind her.

She stood, smiling. “And why is that?” Destinee folded and placed her dress on the lounge chair.

“Because…” He stared at her. “You’re starting up some trouble I don’t think you intended.”

“I love trouble.” Destinee took off her hat, exposing her tight curls, and tossed it on top of her other stuff on the chair. She gazed at him. “I always finish what I start.” She slowly walked over to the pool and got in, swimming away.

Kyle smiled to himself. She was playing hard to get. But he loved a challenge: Destinee would be in his stateroom before the night was over. He pulled off his shirt, and took everything out of his shorts, placing it all in her bag. Then he slipped off his shoes and walked over to the pool to join Destinee.

He swam up to her. “Where are your friends?” he glanced around. Kyle had a feeling she was on this trip by herself.

“Taking care of something.” She swam to the edge of the pool. “I don’t keep tabs on them.”

Kyle followed her over to the wall. “What are you doing tonight?”

She treaded water. “Not sure. Why? What were you thinking?”

“We can go to dinner and maybe the club on the upper deck.” He held her gaze. “We can get dressed up, for once.”

“That sounds great. I haven’t been dancing in a long time.” She wiped the water off her face. Kyle continued gazing into her brown eyes, and without thinking, he lifted a strand of her hair from her cheek, incidentally caressing her smooth skin. Her full lips looked so soft and luscious. He inched closer, and Destinee moved.
